Thank you for all the time and love you poured into your club and it's members!

It can be bittersweet as you transition out of your leadership role and as a student as CSS. The time you spent here and the work you did has not gone unnoticed. It is what makes this place magic and how we create community.

Spring semester is always a busy time but please don't rush this final piece, facilitating a successful transition of power is what solidifies the work you've done as a leader and will be the foundation for your successors to grow from and build on.

This process may feel daunting but will likely take less than 15 hours over several weeks.

1. Start Early & Do It Often

  • Keeping your documents and emails organized from Day 1 will make transitioning time much easier
  • Start planning elections and transition time well in advance because time from Spring Break - Finals Week always gets busier than you think. Remember others are also wrapping up many projects and degrees so expect things to take longer.
  • If you save documents to your personal desktop try and periodically upload to a shared drive and the group page instead of all at once the night before your last meeting.

2. Sort through documents on your computer & drive

  • Upload all important info to your group page and/or shared drive
  • Create folders and label with event titles & years to help others navigate it in the future
  • Forward any important emails to your successor

3. Wrap Up Pending Projects

  • Complete any tasks such as Club Renewal Forms and Club Budgets before signing-off (mentally & physically)
  • If projects cannot be completed before you're gone, find underclassmen willing to see it through in the following year - loop them in on committees, email chains, or documents. Make sure everyone knows who is going to be involved after you.
  • If it is a partnership with faculty/staff at CSS make sure to communicate where you are leaving things off and thank them for working with you.

4. Finalize Club Accounts

  • Ensure all reimbursements are signed by the advisor and submitted
  • Check your internal records to make sure you've spent within your budget.

5. Set Aside Time to Teach

  • Your successor will likely have questions or need to be shown how to utilize certain features on SaintsLife, how to interpret documents, and where to find things.
  • Offer meetings to meet in-person and review all the important logistics. It may take a few hours but will be very helpful for them in the long run!
  • Share your pearls! Undoubtably you ran into small & big issues/hiccups/annoyances - tell them about it so they can avoid it AND how you fixed it.

6. Reflect & Be Proud

  • You've given a lot back to your peers and the CSS Community. Things would not have happened the same if there wasn't a You in the role!
  • Reflect on the goals you set for yourself when starting the role, your expectations and where you are now.

Don't Forget to Celebrate

Lots of clubs host an end of the year event for their members. It can be on-campus, off-campus, causal or semi-formal, an activity or food at a meeting.
