With this week leading into the final stretch, there is a lot on everyone's plates! In these stressful times it can be really easy to lose ourselves in the papers, assignments, and exams. The virtue to try to hold strong in these times is fortitude. Fortitude is defined in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as “the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the pursuit of the good.” Are you wondering how exactly we can do this? What better person to observe than Jesus?
On the night that Jesus was handed over to be crucified, He gathered some of His Apostles and entered into His agony in the garden. Using this model that Jesus gives us when facing His stressful situation, we can apply it to our own! Jesus gives us three things to help get us through our stresses. First, He chooses His closest friends and invites them into a comfortable environment. Next, He prays, grounding Himself in reality. He acknowledges that what is about to happen isn’t easy and favorable, and yet He’s willing to do it, prepared for anything. Finally, He reminds Himself why He’s prepared to bear this suffering. What helps remind you of your “why”?
Are you looking for more opportunities for prayer? Take a break for your busy week at our prayer station in the Student Union on Thursday, May 2nd for the national day of prayer! There will be a board for you to write down any prayer requests you might have, as well as some treats! We hope to see you there to pray our way into finals week!
