“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost?”
- Matthew 18:12
This is probably an analogy of Jesus you have not heard before. If you don’t know what a bog rider is, don’t worry I was right there with you. On a ranch, the bog rider is the person who goes out into the swamp to save the lost cattle stuck in the mud. While the bog rider is trying to save the cattle, the cattle are trying to fight against them because they are scared and don’t know they are being helped. It is a dirty and hard job, but also very important. As seen in scripture, Jesus will leave the 99 to find the one who has strayed and found ourselves lost in the mud. Most of the time we do not realize we are in the mud and need to be saved, but Jesus stays with us and helps pull us out.
Reflection:
Why do you think that Jesus would leave the 99 for one?
When you feel you have strayed, what are some ways you can turn to Jesus?
